Tea in the Morning: A Daily Ritual

Sometimes, I wake up late. I might have gone to trivia the night before which made me get in after midnight. Perhaps I attended a foodie thing in the city. I could’ve thrown together a smoothie at 11:15 pm. Maybe the boo and I caught dinner after work. All of those things usually contribute to an early morning.

Or maybe I got up early but couldn’t pull myself out of bed. Perhaps I wanted to add three types of fruit to the smoothie bowl that would become my breakfast. This could have been a morning where I forgot to get gas on the way in and had to stop before making it to work. Might have also made this a Dunkin’ morning too.

But despite what occurred in the minutes and hours leading up to my work day, every morning is the same. I’ll come in my office, turn the lights on, start up my laptop and get boiling water for my tea. Because I need tea to start my day.

I usually begin each work morning with 2-3 Tbsp of sugar, a sachet of tea, and I let it steep for about five minutes. I peruse my email, make my daily to do list, and begin my day. Drinking tea reaffirms normalcy to my routine. And with the new year in full swing, it’s essential for me to continue positive habits.
