Ray’s Rio Bravo: Date Night Without the Noise

When I told my boyfriend that we were going to Ray’s Rio Bravo, I didn’t really know what to expect. I also didn’t know what to tell him beyond that this was the Tex-Mex equivalent to the Ray’s restaurants that we were so familiar with.

We dined there on a Sunday. The patrons were few and the game was on. Our waiter Jake was attentive and polite. It made for the perfect environment to share great conversation and laughs with each other.

We started with dip, chips, and drinks.

We ordered guacamole to eat while we waited for our food. We ordered drinks just to get the night started. I ordered the Texas Margarita and he opted for the Caipirita Colada, which I switched too later in the meal.

Before I go on with the rest of the meal, let me ramble for a minute about this Caipirita Colada. That drink was the fine big brother of the Pina Colada that you never hear about because he lives in California and rarely comes home. He’s smoother, sweeter, and overall just better.

Where was I? Oh yea. Our meal came not too long after that. The Falcons were in a great battle with the Seahawks when the food arrived.

He ordered the Acapulco which was a lot of food (as you could see). So much food that this was the first time I remember not seeing him finish a plate. This comes with three enchiladas, two tacos, and a tamale on top of rice and refried beans.

Needless to say, he loved it.

At the last minute, I changed my mind and ordered the Cancun Scampi. The panko-crusted shrimp was seasoned extremely well. Initially, I ate it alone but eventually decided to pair it with the rice, corn, guac, and salsa and make a soft taco.

It was good! In hindsight, I probably wouldn’t have ordered this entree but I’m glad I did. It was really good. And in typical Ashleigh fashion, I took the remainder to go.

What’s dinner without dessert, right? After glancing at the menu for a minute, the Sopapilla Sundae enticed me. It read like it was fried ice cream surrounded with sopapillas.

And that’s exactly what it was. It was so daggone good. For someone who hates to share food, especially dessert, there was enough here to split and remain satisfied. What a win.

We left satisfied with the overall experience and made note to return. I think we found another restaurant to add to the great date night roster.
